Kim Guessford, Trainer
Kim's interest in horses started at age 5 when visiting a kindergarten friend who had a pony.
As a junior rider she competed successfully in the hunters, jumpers and equitation, winning
year end awards on the Connecticut circuit. She was a working student during her teen years,
learning as much as she could about all aspects of the horse business. Kim attended Mount
Holyoke College and competed on the intercollegiate equestrian team during her freshman and
sophomore years. For the remainder of college she balanced school with competing
her 4 horses in the adult and amateur owner hunter divisions nationally riding
with hunter trainer Danny Robertshaw.
Kim turned professional in her early twenties and ran her own business, riding, coaching and
managing horse shows and was on the Board of Directors for the South Carolina Hunter Jumper
Association. Over the years Ms. Guessford has worked for top trainers preparing horses and riders
for the show ring from Wellington to Indoors and Finals. From 1999-2001 she was an Assistant
Trainer for Olympian Nona Garson. Her current students have achieved consistent results at
Marshall and Sterling Finals, The National Children's Medal Finals and Zone 2 Year End awards
in the hunter, jumper and equitation divisions. She continues to compete in the hunters and
jumpers and has won many champion and year end awards on the horses Lasandro, Falsterbo, and
Atlantis to name a few. Kim currently competes Atlantis in the 2nd year green working hunter
division and hopes to compete in some Hunter Derbies this year.
Throughout the years Kim has been involved in all aspects of horses care and health which is
reflected in her approach to training. She works closely with an excellent team of veterinarians,
equine chiropractors, physical therapists, nutritionists and blacksmiths, and continues
to keep up with the most recent advances in equine health and nutrition, incorporating them
into her training program.
Kim currently resides in Lebanon, NJ with her son Patrick and Jack Russell Terrier, Sophie. |
